Islam was founded in 610 AD by Muhammad. After receiving a revelation from God, delivered by the angel Gabriel, Muhammad became the first messenger of Islam. The night this event occurred is known as the Night of Power and Excellence, it is celebrated during the last ten days of Ramadan.
The day that the Islamic calendar begins From is known as the Hijra. This event occurred when Muhammad, and later, his followers marched to Medina to avoid persecution from the local, corrupt leaders because they received another message from the angel Gabriel.
7 years later, in 629 AD, Muhammad and thousands of his followers returned to Mecca. They cleared the Kaaba of all it’s false idols and turned it back into a place of worship to Allah.
The importance of Mecca in Islam’s history, led to Muslims gathering there once a year to complete the Hajj. The Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca, that every Muslim must complete once in their life.
Compared to Christianity, Islam has a lot of strict beliefs that it’s followers must abide by. Such as being not allowed to consume alcohol or pork. They also drop everything and pray, five times each day.
