Pancreatitis causes inflammation to the pancreas and abdomen pain, as well as nausea and vomiting.
Some causes of this are alcohol use, direct trauma, certain medications, and infections such as mumps and tumors.
People will experience pain in the abdomen or back, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and loss of appetite.
The back pain can sometimes be disabling. The vomiting is not very vital, but some patients have a chance to get pancreatic infection. Usually that is the main cause of death that is received from pancreatitis.
The disease is common, with over 200,000 cases per year.
The average age affected is around 40-60, but all ages can be effected. Most places in the world that are affected are places that have high alcohol consumption.
Blood tests are taken to find high levels of pancreatic enzymes and scanning for gallstones is how this is diagnosed.
Some treatments are stabilizing the patient is the hospital and treating the main cause. Other treatments can be self care, surgery, and specialists.
