Collaborating learning

This pedagogy involves students working together as a team to solve problems, complete projects, discuss or debate ideas and different perspectives. It emphasizes the importance of interpersonal skills, such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution, as well as the benefits of social learning, such as the sharing of knowledge, vision, and the development of diverse perspectives.

The way an educator is teaching the class is the best example for me. Setting in different groups, besides working as a team on different activities build a connection between students. We were involved in the learning process of the class and I felt every student mattered in my class. It also brings awareness and learning partnerships together in order to shape successful students(p 17, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Zaretta Hammond).

Differentiated instruction

This approach recognizes that learners have different learning abilities, styles, and interests. It emphasizes the importance of tailoring instruction to meet individual needs, providing various learning activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and reflection. This can help ensure that all the students have the opportunity to get involved and feel they are cared for.

One of the different learning styles mentioned in this book is dependent and independent learners. "Dependent" and "Independent" are not meant to be judgmental, students should feel safe at school and understand they might be more dependent in some areas and more independent in other areas.

Culturaly

Teaching

This approach recognizes the diversity of learners and aims to create a learning environment that respects and values cultural differences. It emphasizes the importance of understanding and incorporating student's cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, besides our own culture into the curriculum and instructional practices

As a minority in the society I live, I can feel how essential culturally responsive teaching is for students. Also, how challenging might be to build a relationship. The spite of that, I could communicate with immigrant students easily in my field placement and build a relationship with them. They felt more comfortable with me as another immigrant to ask questions and ask for help.

In culturally responsive teaching an educator needs to be aware of her/his own culture and the deep impact on their lives in three different levels of culture. Understanding the differences between surface culture, shallow culture, and deep culture help the educator to understand the situation and build a relationship with those students effortlessly.

Social-Emotional
Learning

Social-emotional learning (SEL) was one of the main discussions in Zarrretta Hammond's book. SEL refers to a process of developing a student's social and emotional components, such as self-awareness, and self-management. social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Hammond also noted that SEL can be integrated into academic instruction which developed academic skills.

Cooperative learning and group work can promote social and emotional development by giving students opportunities to practice communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills. I will plan to structure group work activities to support positive independence, in which students need to rely on one another to complete a task while they are practicing SEL.

Constructivisim

This theory emphasizes the importance of the learners actively constructing their own understanding of knowledge and concepts. It encourages the use of collaborative and interactive learning activities that
promote problem-solving, critical thinking, and reflection.

I believe constructivism is one of the important philosophies in mathematics. As an educator, I have to evaluate students' previous knowledge and understanding by asking questions and using their answers as a foundation to continue to teach and add to their knowledge.
