PROHIBITION, GANGSTERS, JAZZ CLUBS, & SPEAKEASIES

PROHIBITION

  • On January 29th 1919 prohibition was ratified.
  • Because of prohibition the illegal act of bootlegging started
  • During 1932 Franklin D Roosevelt ended prohibition.

GANGSTERS

  • The formation of gangsters and gangs can ultimately be traced back to the 18th Amendment
  • They made money through the manipulation of the poor, the rich, and everyone in between
  • Gangsters thrived off of the fear that they caused

JAZZ CLUBS & SPEAKEASIES

  • speakeasies are clubs or businesses that sold alcohol illegally
  • this was the birth of cocktails
  • Jazz clubs were a hub for gangsters, politicians, and alcohol
  • This is where cocktails were born
