In this class, we ask three questions

One of our questions is:
Can stories be medicine?

Sometimes stories are just entertainment

Sometimes stories can make us feel like we are not alone

So this term, each student will study a film that speaks to a family issue they have personally experienced

To get started, each student will email the instructor with a list of issues they have experienced while in their family of origin

The instructor will then
suggest some movies that
match those issues
(from a limited, pre-approved list)

By way of example, issues experienced while in my family of origin include:

Two major, cross country moves

Divorce

A parent coming out

Those issues all affected me deeply.

But the issue that affected me most while in my family of origin was being sexually assaulted twice before I was 14

I might purposefully choose not to study childhood sexual assault

When you email, share whatever list of issues you feel comfortable sharing

Instructor will respond with a list of movie choices
