3 Tips to Save Money on the Road

Recently Pamplamoose released a blog post on Medium about how his 28 day tour generated nearly $130,000 and still lost $11,000. As it turned out, the blog post received some significant criticism about how to tour. Additionally, it was revealed that the gentlemen who wrote the article Jack Conte also is the CEO of a company he mentioned he uses to generate revenue Patreon and didn’t not mention that he was the CEO in the article.

Here are 3 tips to save money on the road:

1. Skip the Dollar Menu

Not only will you feel like a bloated mess, eating fast food is a great way to kill your budget. You are better off stopping by the local supermarket and buy a can of tuna, some peanut butter, jelly, and bread. For $10 you can eat for a week.

2. Leave the Trailer at Home

Most small and midsize bands are tempted to tour with a trailer. This is a horrible idea. Trailer are expensive, easy to steal, make parking impossible, and ruin your chances of getting good gas mileage on tour. The only exception is that you sell so much merch you need a trailer.

3. Insurance

Theft is all too likely to happen when your life savings is crammed in the back of a van around the country. To avoid the sting of theft, consider getting some insurance on your gear to protect yourself. Also, consider leaving your best gear at home and bringing less expensive road gear. Even consider borrowing cabs at the venues rather than bringing your own.
