Fight the good fight of faith

Pres imp

To engage in an attack, to contest with someone

Paul actually uses this construct to describe the end of his ministry in 2 Timothy 4:7....

There are fights worth getting into

They relate to our trust in God

There are good fights and there are bad ones.....

Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.
1 Cor. 9:26

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

2 Cor 10:3-5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.....

6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

Grab

Hold on to and make it your own
Pres imp

Lay hold of KJV.....

To the eternal life to which God called you

Which you declared .....reference to his commissioning

See Jn 18:36-37.

1 Tim 1:18, 4:14, refer to that moment. Similar language with fighting the good fight

Keep

Maintain this eternal life
That you testified to

That Jesus himself models for us

Notice the emphasis on good......

the good fight

the good testimony

(Illus. sound, solid, you can trust it to hold you)

That is the command. Above all else that this command to lay hold of grab tightly.....

Be obeyed. If you do so.....then you will avoid the stains that come from sinful compromise and diminish the strength or firmness of your testimony
