How is an annotation different from an abstract?

Abstract:
Descriptive summary often found at the beginning of scholarly journal articles or in periodical indices.

Annotation:
Descriptive and critical commentaries on a source; they expose the creator's point of view, critique the source, and put a source into context.

Steps to Annotating

  • Find the source
  • Read the source
  • Take strategic notes
  • Write the annotation
  • Review the annotation
  • Cite the source
