  • Last eruption was in June 2014
  • It is located in Sicily, Italy. Province of Catania.
  • Rising 11,000 feet above sea level.

WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE EVENT TO AFFECT HUMAN LIFE?

  • Most victims had saved themselves by fleeing the area.

DESCRIBE THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS.

  • It is the most active volcano in Europe.
  • It's elevation is 10,991'.
  • The area it covers is 459 miles.

HOW DID THE ENVIRONMENT LOOK BEFORE THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT?

  • It looked very clear and open.
  • With a lot of buildings/houses
  • Lots of sun
  • Lots of land.

HOW DID THE ENVIRONMENT LOOK AFTER THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT?

  • It kind of looked the same, but there was a lot of smoke.

DID THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT CAUSE ANY OTHER CATASTROPHIC EVENT?

  • No. It just erupted that one time. It will erupt again. It doesn't take that long but it takes a while for another catastrophic event to happen like that.

WHAT ORGANISMS WERE PRESENT BEFORE THE EVENT AND HOW WERE THEY AFFECTED?

  • Lots of fish
  • Loads of smoke and gas wiping them out

WHAT ABIOTIC FACTORS CHANGED AFTER THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT?

  • Fish
  • + other living organisms

HAS THE CATASTROPHIC EVENT CHANGED BIODIVERSITY IN THAT ENVIRONMENT?

  • Yes and no. Yes, because most of the things surrounding the volcano, once it erupted, mostly got burned. No, because everywhere else just got a big pile of smoke and lots of ashes.
