  • Introduce animal arrangement, zoomorphism.
  • Pi talked about rhinos and goats living together. Pi gives some examples.

  • The author talked about a visit to Pi's house. Pi shows the author memorabilia
  • There are only four pictures about his childhood.
  • Pi can not even remember exactly what his mother looks like.
  • "A photo taken in better days, casually Richard Parker is looking away.
  • How doesn't even realize that his picture is being taken"(Martel 114).

CH 34

  • Pi said they have sold most of the zoo animals to other zoos.
  • It told the story before they started the trip to Canada.
  • A colossal amount of paperwork exchanges hands.

  • Some Americans show up in Pondicherry to inspect the animals.
  • Americans have bone-crushing handshakes.
  • "And two animals were being shipped to the Canada zoo.
  • That's now Ravi and I felt. We did not want to go(Martel 115).

CH 35

  • The family leaves from Madras (now called Chennai) on June 21st, 1977.
  • Pi's mother considers buying Indian cigarettes even though she doesn't smoke.
  • She's already homesick.
  • "We left Madras on June 21st, 1977, on the Panamanian-registered
  • Japanese cargo ship Tsimtsum(Martel 118).

CH 36

  • The interviewer arrives at Pi's house.
  • He meets Pi and his son, Nikhil who was rushing out the door.
  • Pi's dog, Tata, and his daughter, Usha, were also introduced.
  • "This story has a happy ending" (Martel 66).

CH 37

  • Pi was in the lifeboat, watching the ship sink.
  • When he saw Richard Parker, Pi called out to him,
  • trying to save him with the lifebuoy.

  • As Richard Parker was getting onto the life,
  • Pi noticed his actions and threw himself overboard.
  • "I turned around, stepped over the zebra and threw myself overboard" (Martel 68).

CH 38

  • The ship continued, stopping at multiple Asian countries.
  • Pi spent his time marking a map, while Ravi watched people work.
  • At night, Pi thought he hear an explosion.
  • "I don't know why I got up that night. It was more
  • the sort of thing Ravi would do" (Martel 69).

  • Pi had tried to wake Ravi up.
  • After Ravi continued to sleep, Pi went up to the main deck noticed to terrible, storm-like weather.
  • A greatly confused Pi tried to find what was going on; but was suddenly thrown overboard.
  • "I was so full of trust in them that I felt grateful as they carried me in the air. Only when they threw me
  • overboard did I begin to have doubts" (Martel 71).

CH 39

  • After being thrown, Pi landed on the life boat tarpaulin.
  • Following Pi, a male zebra leapt off the side and landed onto the lifeboat as well.
  • The weight of the zebra caused the lifeboat to fall into the water.
  • "The lifeboat fell through the air and we hit the seething water" (Martel 72).

CH 40

  • Pi had fallen into the ocean
  • Seeing a shark fin in the water, Pi grabbed onto the oar and pulled himself back onto the boat.
  • Be wary of Richard Parker, Pi had fastened a life buoy onto the oar so that he could sit on it.
  • "I held on to the oar, I just held on, God only knows why" (Martel 72).
