At the beginning of chapter 6 both John and Buck are recovering and slowly coming back to health.

Then Buck is introduced to Skeet and Nig and they immediately have a strong, loving bond.

Next, Buck feels a strong curiosity for the wild, but realizes if he leaves he will be leaving John. Others start to realize he's loyalty.

Later, when a fight breaks out between John and another man, Buck acts automatically and attacks him, saving John.

Later, John falls into treacherous waters were Buck, Pete, and Hans attempt to save him, after lots of struggling, Buck is able to take but to shore.

7.

When John visits a saloon a bet is made that Buck can't carry 1,000 pounds and walk 100 yards, John takes the bet.

8.

After John encourages him, Buck is able to win the bet and their relationship becomes stronger than ever.
