COLONIZING CENTRAL KENTUCKY

DANIEL BOONE

  • Daniel Boone was hired by the Transylvania Company in 1775
  • His task was to blaze a trail into Central Kentucky
  • On March 10, 1775, Boone and about 30 other men set out on a journey that changed America.

THE TRAIL

  • The Wilderness Trail was over 200 miles long.
  • It was used from 1775-1810.
  • The wilderness trail was the path used by 300,000 settlers into Central Kentucky

SETTLEMENTS

  • Boonesboro and the other settlements made in Kentucky were not comfortable.
  • They had the bare minimum of everything.
  • The cabins caught on fire very easily.
  • Indian attacks were very common.
  • They had to work hard to survive.
  • They mostly ate meat and vegetables but on special occasions they had pies or other baked goods.
