WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

• Social and political legacy that ravaged the country of independence
• The governor of Angola were rivals of Unita before Angola gained independence from Portugal

WHO WAS INVOLVED?

• MPLA vs. UNITA
• The US and South Africa were against Angola
• The Soviet Union and Cuba supported Angola

DETAILS OF THE CIVIL WAR.

• 16 years of fighting and 300000 deaths
• A peace deal was made which led to elections
• Peace keepers were sent in 1994 and failed
• Angola was Africa's major oil producer

WHAT WAS THE RESULT?

• Forces withdrew ended the war
• Savinbi, the leader;was killed and UNITA resigned
• They are now re-settling refuges to their families and rebuilding infrastructures
• They now have a new and improved government system

DID WAR EFFORTS WORK?

• No they did not
• They hired the Chinese to rebuild structures and not local workers which did not improve their economy

• The capital city of Angola is Luanda
• They speak Portuguese
• Their currency is Angolan Kwanza
