SHAHADA- PROFESSION OF FAITH

  • Muhammad is the profit of god
  • Shahada is the first thing said to an infant
  • (If possible) last thing heard before death
  • Muslim means “surrender to god”
  • “There’s no god, but god”

SALAT- FIVE DAILY PRAYERS

  • Prayer is proof of Islam
  • You are able to pray anywhere
  • You usually preform the prayer the direction facing Mecca
  • People of all the classes stand together
  • Wudu is ritual washing before prayer

ZAKAT (ZAKAH)- CHARITY/ALMSGIVING

ZAKAT (ZAKAH)

  • The meaning is purification
  • 2.5% of wealth of Muslims is shared a year
  • Zakat is a reminder of what god means to Muslims
  • The Qur’an says that the wealthy should share with the less fortunate
  • It’s required for Muslims

SAWM- FASTING DURING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN

  • Fast from day break to sunset
  • It’s the (ninth) month when god communicated with Muhammad
  • Muslims pray and break their fast at sunset
  • The whole Quran will be completed at the end
  • Was a tradition before Islam

HAJJ- PILGRIMAGE TO MECCA

HAJJ

  • Circle the Ka’bah 7 times
  • Run between hills
  • Drink from the Zam Zam stream
  • Hadj is about fellowship and equality
  • On the plain of Arafat, they pray until sunset
  • Every adult is required to make this pilgrimage
