Beau’s Lines:
*Depressions across the natural nail
*Slows nail cell production
* Caused by trauma to the body

Blue Fingernails
*lack of circulating oxygen in red blood cells
*if normal color shows after being massaged, it is due to lack of blood supply or circulation

Bruised Nail Beds
*blood clot under the nail plate
* dried blood absorbs to epithelium

DISCOLORED NAILS

  • Surface staining, systematic disorder, or poor blood circulation
  • Nail polish, food, dyes, smoking.

Eggshell Nails
* more flexible than normal, weaker, break easier
*240 grit file or higher

HANGNAIL

SPLIT OR TEAR OF LIVING SKIN AROUND THE NAIL PLATE; CAN BE TRIMMED IF SKIN IS DEAD.

KOILONYCHIA

  • Concave nail
  • Iron deficiency,anemi

LEUKONYCHIA SPOTS

  • Vitamin or mineral deficiency
  • Grow off and disappear

MELANONYCHIA

DARKENING OF THE NAILS, BLACK BAND FROM BASE TO FREE EDGE

ONYCHOPHAGY

  • Hardened, damaged skin around the nail plate caused from biting nails.

  • Vertical lines caused by uneven growth of the nail
