FUN FACTS!

  • At current poaching rates, elephants, rhinos, and other iconic wildlife may be gone within our lifetime.
  • Rhinos and gorillas are critacally endangered.
  • Zebras are endangered, elephants and lions are vulnerable.
  • A rhinos horn is believed to treat cancer, and has been proved wrong.
  • Ivory is carved into jewelry, utensils, and trinkets (it’s not worth an elephants life).

WHY DO PEOPLE POACH?

(This is an essential question)

Answer
Zebras are hunted for their skin, they are also occasionally used for meat or meds. Due to recent habitat loss, many lions live close to humans. That leads to death by farmers in retaliation for preying on livestock.

WHAT ARE WE DOING TO STOP THIS

Or what can we do?

Answer
There are anti-poaching patrols and campaigns for stronger actions against the illegal wildlife trade. We need to improve security and technology AGAINST poachers. Because if we don’t have improved security, the poachers can kill at night with those night vision goggles they have.

ANIMALS THAT ARE POACHED!

  • Elephants
  • Rhinos
  • Leopards
  • Black bears
  • Tigers
  • Sharks
  • Sea turtles
  • Pangolins
  • And manta rays
