TOPIC :- IMPORTANCE OF SAFEGUARDING MARINE LIFE

What is Marine life?

Marine life, sea life, or ocean life is the plants, animals, and other organisms that live in the salt water of the sea or ocean.

Importance of oceans

Oceans are an important part of the planet. It conserves the biodiversity of marine life, which play an important part in the food chain. It is also an contains the most needed natural resource Water.

Why do we need to conserve oceans?

Oceans are called ‘bodies of water’ because they contain a lot of water which we need. It is also an important source of food as it feeds half of the population.

How do we pollute oceans?

It all starts from our litter to disturb an ecosystem. Every year, 8 metric tons of plastic is dumped into oceans, which produce toxic substances. They are harmful to marine life. Every year 100 million animals underwater die because of this.

Why do we need to conserve marine life?

We need to protect marine life as they alone make up 80 percent of planet’s biodiversity. They are the food source of 3 billion people. There is a saying that ‘small things can make big impact’ . If we start protecting Marine life, the future generations will have no problems.

Impact on people if ocean pollution occurs...

First of all, 3 billion people will suffer from hunger. There would be complete destruction of food chain. Oxygen levels would slowly deplete as plastic needs oxygen to decompose. There would be problems, as people fight for water.

Measures to be taken to conserve oceans and marine life.

  • Use eco-friendly products.
  • Don’t allow others to litter near water sources.
  • Don’t spoil ecosystem underwater.
  • Create awareness to conserve oceans.
  • Encourage people to start conserving oceans.
