PALMER RAIDS

  • November 1919
  • Raids and arrests by the U.S. to capture anarchists in the U.S.
  • More than 500 citizens were deported.
  • Occurred under the leadership of A. Mitchell Palmer.

18TH AMENDMENT

  • Certified in January of 1919.
  • Effective in January of 1920.
  • Prohibited alcohol in the United States.

SACCO AND VANZETTI TRIAL

  • April 15th, 1920
  • Were accused for murder
  • Actually on trial for being immigrants
  • Both were eventually executed

TEAPOT DOME AFFAIR

  • 1921
  • Albert Fall leased Navy petroleum reserves to private oil companies.
  • Fall was later convicted of accepting bribes from oil companies.
  • Was the first cabinet member to go to prison.

  • Scopes taught evolution, which was against the law.
  • He was supposed to teach the bible.
  • He was found guilty and fined $100.
