Many in the educational community are skeptical of an exam executed through a private company and scored by non-teachers, costing $300. Commitment to studying for the edTPA has also been a concern, as some schools have lessened student teaching requirements, opting to give candidates for Ed degrees more time to study for the exam.

Educators do not think that giving students class rankings is helpful . Giving students class rankings such as valedictorian compares students in a negative way. Giving class rankings reduces the successes of other students and makes their efforts seem less important. Studies show that valedictorians may be well adjusted and hard working but that does not indicate that they are not as innovative as they should be.
