The first pharaoh began his rule in 2920 BCE, nearly 5,000 years ago
Sand was everywhere, easily settling in the dough for flat bread
Crops in the Lower Nile harvested and sent to market mid-February to mid-June
The Black Land was meant for life and the Red Land was meant for danger
Fields in the Nile flood, plain covered water and fertilized by a new batch of silk

In Ancient Egypt people were born in different social classes that determined status and jobs
Some people were able to move into a higher social class
The king was at the top while enslaved people were at the bottom
The king builds pyramids so when they die they will be buried there
Everybody was organized and differentiated by society classes

The pyramids were built by the Egyptian Kings
To construct the pyramids you had to know mathematics, engineering, geometry, and architecture
They served as tombs for the dead kings
The Kings chamber is located inside the pyramid
Offerings were made at temples
They believed kings could take their processions with them after death

Hieroglyphics is a system of writing that was based on pictures
They represented ideas or objects but could also stand for sounds
They later developed paper which made it easier for keeping records
We know about the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt because of the written records that were left
