CONFLICT THEORY

CONFLICT PERSPECTIVE

  • Conflict perspective is the theoretical perspective which focuses on the forces in society that promote competition and change.
  • (Both violent and non-violent acts.)
  • Based off of scarcity of resources (competition for power/money/food etc.)

HOW IS IT USED?

  • Conflict perspective is used to study how people with out money and/or power are controlled by other people with money and/or power.

EXAMPLES

  • Governments - how they control the people
  • Relationships - who has which responsibilities or more power over the other
  • Differences in racial groups

FUNCTIONALISTS PERSPECTIVE

FUNCTIONALISTSMBELIEVE THAT SOVIRTY IS HELD TOGRTHER BY YHE MAJORITIES CONSENSUS

  • Functionalists so believe that society is held together by the majorities consensus

  • Aspects of society are either a positive or negative function

EXAMPLES

  • Functional: farming and law enforcement
  • Dysfunctional: crime and jobs made only for profit
