Expansion diffusion-Spreads outward from the source through interaction with others.
Contagious diffusion – all nearby people are impacted (flu)
Hierarchical Diffusion – people of power or influence have it first and pass it down to lower groups
Relocation diffusion- People move to a new area and bring their cultural traits with them
Stimulus diffusion- take part of a cultural trait, not all, and change it
Formal region-places that share one or more similar phenomenon (characteristic)
Functional region-defined by a set of activities that take place and the limits in which they occur (performs a function)
Perceptual region- exists as an idea in someone’s mind based on attitudes and feelings, “mental maps”
Globalization-Globalization is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture
Geographic Information System (GIS)- computer system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data.
Remote Sensing - The acquisition of data about Earth's surface from a satellite orbiting the planet or other long-distance methods.
Global Positioning System - A set of satellites used to help determine location anywhere on the earth's surface with a portable electronic device.
Online maps - maps you can view online
Census data - official counting of region's or nation's people and compilation of economic, social and other data,
Ariel photography - photograph taken from an aircraft or satellite in flight.
Satellite photography - images of Earth or other planets collected by artificial satellites
