Great app for helping to organize the classroom. Seems hard if you have lots of ever-changing classroom, but good for those that stick around. Also would be a great way to formatively assess through observations by creating on-the-go assignments with the app.

Also available for the computer, can sync Planbook between devices and then publish to PlanbookOnline and link to your teacher website. Simple format, very customizable, and easy to share.

One of the best! Use with classes for assignments, sharing materials, and discussions. Even if you don't use it with classes you can still connect with communities of teachers that do what you do! Grading is very easy on the iPad as well, great idea for formative assessment.

Purely classroom behavior tracking. Set up different types of behaviors, both positive and negative, and quickly give students + or - for their actions. Students can log-in online as well and customize their 'monster', parents can access reports, and teachers can run detailed reports.

iPhone app, but connects with Classroom Organizer by Booksource website to organize your classroom library. Can scan ISBN numbers for your books, students can go to the website and 'check out' and check in books. Great for classroom libraries!

Can create and edit existing Prezi's, not full featured like the site but getting closer every day. Share Prezi's from here and present them as well.

Create lessons or have your students create lessons that include handwriting, voice, and pictures. Can create multiple slides in a lesson. Best part is integration with their site which allows easy access of the videos for students in your classes/school to view lessons.

Great app for creating presentations on your iPad. Very simple...best part is the ability to add public and private notes that are viewable with the presentation later on.

Create simple Smart Notebook lessons right from your iPad, plug up to the computer to present or share the lesson with yourself.

Create very cool little video explanations with text, pictures, clipart, and music. The app 'draws' the creation out and creates a little video that you can export and share.

Create 'interactive' pictures. Choose a picture and add 'hot spots' that show text, links, video, and more. Some features on iPad, more on the website.

Create and set-up rubrics and classes to easily assess. When assessing can use rubric, pictures, notes, and video. Great for performance assessments, student presentations, or just any student work.

Very similar to Easy Assessment but different in sharing and a bit on the organizational side.

Socrative is a great assessment tool if your students have access to any type of devices (personal, phones, computers, etc.). Very easy to create assessments quickly, get fast results to analyze. Favorite thing is the compatibility with literally any device. If they can't get the app they just need an Internet browser.

Great website and platform in general for free blogging with your students. I have some students who use the app to post, I myself love the ability to review and approve student comments quickly. As students write I'm able to walk around the classroom while approving comments.

Very easy mind mapping tool, exports easily into a lot of formats.

Like a flashcard system, Evernote Peek works with a Smart Cover on an iPad so students can quiz themselves on terms and definitions, or any manner of topics.

Great app for brainstorming, but has a lot of purposes. Basically an unlimited table of notecards and ways to organize them.

This app is just too cool. At 4.99$ it's a splurge, but great for splicing together any media you have, adding text, and sharing them with others. Great for student projects or for you to share with students.

Another great tool to visualize ideas, like the ability to use images with this one.

Augmented reality app. Very cool, create an augmented reality environment by adding videos and animations on a 'target image'. For instance, have students point their device at a piece of artwork and have a video appear explaining the artist and history of the piece.

I check this app...every single day. There are always free apps out there and this is my favorite app for checking that out. Must have!

There are lots of different versions of this but this is my personal favorite. Quickly take pictures of documents (or literally anything), package those pictures together as one file and share it in a multitude of ways. I haven't used a flatbed scanner in years.

Need to sign documents and share them back with others? This is a pretty cool app for that. I'd recommend a stylus if you want to get a decent signature, but works great and very easy to use.

I know Google Translate isn't perfect but once upon a time a student who spoke absolutely no English walked into my classroom. Using my iPad her classmates and I managed to help her understand everything going on and even helped her to participate in a group project with no issues whatsoever. That day, Google Translate was my life saver.

This app and others like it are very handy. Take a PDF, add symbols and markers, highlights, notes, and comments. Then send it right back on out.

In Kentucky we're a Microsoft state, but I love the SkyDrive app even more than Dropbox. I think Microsoft has made it extremely simple to upload and share files with this app.

As much as I love SkyDrive, I also use GoogleDrive and Dropbox for various things. This app....brings ALL those things together PLUS let's you edit Microsoft Office documents right on your device and re-save to those drives. A-maz-ing.

More than just Google search, make sure you have the Google app. If for nothing else to try out Google 'goggles' or image search that searches the web for a picture you take.

Skitch by Evernote is a very handy image and document markup too. I love snapping screenshots to send to people, dropping them in Skitch and adding a few notes and arrows to help guide them.

Evernote, the mother of all note taking apps, is just too darn handy. I have it on all my devices and I wish with everything it had been invented when I was writing massive research papers in college. What a great tool to organize all KINDS of not just notes, but attachments, pictures, and voice notes.

At first I thought..what's the point of these QR things?? But they can come in very handy. Put a QR code on sheet you give students that directs them to a website to visit or use, share a cool resource, or point anyone to more information about something. Create a code here that will take you to any link you choose, then send it to yourself to print out. Very fast, very easy.

But you must have something to scan those pesky QR codes with!

I'll admit I haven't played with this app/website enough and in a while, but the premise is to help document and organize evidence. A great way to do digital portfolios or organize resources.

I mean...you know what Twitter is right??

This makes the top 5 favorite list for sure. There are so many websites and resources out there in the world, and no one has time to read them right now. Set up pocket in a variety of ways to send links to your account to read later. In Twitter I simply click Read Later, and it sends the site or tweet straight to pocket. You can also tag websites you've gathered in the pocket app.

They've updated this since I've published this Haiku Deck, but the Lync app has become more functional and user friendly. Again...Kentucky is a Microsoft state so this helps me stay on board.

I love Evernote, but OneNote was my first love. Although the iPad app is lacking the full spectrum of awesome features that the computer program has, it's still a great way to create notes/notebooks, and share/collaborate with others.

If you participate in Twitter chats you've got to have something to help you organize those feeds and hashtags. HootSuite is my favorite. There are others out there, but I like being able to look at multiple Twitter columns at once, quick refreshes, and full Twitter functionality within this app.

No Google Reader, No Problem. This replaced G.Reader for me, I subscribe to several blogs and go hear to catch up on my reading.

This app is just kind of cool. Based on location (either your current or one you choose) see a variety of Wikipedia articles. Just a fun one to explore.

Pictures and more pictures, again with a location based platform a very cool way to explore other places.

Love TED videos, this app just makes it easier to watch them :)

A great app for social studies teachers, but also just informative. Stats of the Union shows tons of different statistics about specific states or the entire country with just a few clicks.

Speaks for itself, but a dictionary app is always good to have on hand. I like this one because I can hear pronunciations.

Great easy fingertip access for the Common Core.

Love pulling together lots of different sites and topics all in Flipboard. It's a great app for 'flipping' through websites and feeds magazine style.

Khan is great for short simple explanations on a variety of topics. The app lacks the exercises ability that comes with the full site, but quick access to the videos and transcripts is great.

Check out some of the free courses in iTunesU and if you're feeling daring...you can even set up your own course that others can subscribe to.

Another fun exploration app, visit anywhere in the world...literally. Love the 3D aspects on the iPad and the ability to get additional information on places you're "visiting".

More than just Downton Abbey videos, the PBS app has lots of videos and shows that have great educational value.

Do you know if your library allows you to check out e-books? Probably so, and you'll need this app to make those checked out books work.

A very cool app to find and create 'how-to' guides. Want to show how to make chocolate chip cookies? Simply take pictures of the steps as you go, drop them all in a guide, add notes, and voila you have a gorgeous guide to share with others. Lots of creation possibilities with this app and lots to explore.

A digital planner for students that adds note taking together with a scheduling element.

Great for young students interested in programming. Very problem solving oriented. Takes a special brain for this one!

Fun app, students can continue others' stories and create their own simple stories with illustrations.

Too fun, create animated puppet shows with your own audio and export to videos for later.

Great app for creating poetry, a twist on the refrigerator magnet idea!

What it implies, Toontastic is a fun app to create cartoons and tell stories. Lots of possibilities with this one!
