Effects of the Seven Years' War

  • After the French and Indian War or Seven Years' War the British have much more land in North America.
  • They issue the Proclamation of 1763 to help maintain all of this newly aquired area.

  • A decree issued by the British empire telling the colonist to not go West of the Appalachian Mountians

Writs of Assistance

  • The writs of assistance the British officers search for smuggled goods almost anywhere. Shops, warehouses, boats, and even private homes were searched for smuggled goods.
  • The colonists respond to these taxes by finding a way around them, they illegally smuggle goods into the colonies.

The Sugar Act (1764)

  • The Sugar Act of 1764 actually lowers the taxes on British molasses.
  • It was an attempt to get the colonists to not smuggle goods, and only buy British made molasses.

The Stamp Act (1764)

  • The Stamp act of 1764 taxed almost all printed material. Newspapers, wills, and even playing cards had to be stamped saying you paid the tax.
  • It was repealed in 1766.
