SAINT OF ENVIRONMENT AND ECOLOGY

EARLY YEARS

  • She was born in 1656 near the town of Auriesville, NY
  • She was part of the Mohawk tribe
  • She had small pox and that led to her face being deformed
  • She converted to Christianity when she was a teenager
  • When she was 20, she was baptized

MISSION

  • Her tribe kicked her out and sought refugee in Canada
  • Was dedicated to prayer, penitential practices and cared for the sick
  • She was devoted to the Eucharist and Jesus crucified
  • She sufferd greatly for her faith
  • Went to refuge with the Christian Native Americans (in Canada)

Death
She died at 24 on April 17, 1680. She is known as "Lily of the Mohawks". She was the first Native American to be declared a Saint.

CANONIZATION

SHE WAS CANONIZED OCTOBER 21, 2012 BY POPE BENEDICT XVI

It took up to exactly 332 years in order for her to be canonized and become a Saint
