BIGHORN SHEEP LIVE IN ALPINE MEADOWS, MOUNTAIN SLOPES AND FOOTHILLS

THEY LIKE AREAS WITH ROCKY SLOPES, THEY CAN CLIMB TO EVADE PREDATORS.

found in Arizona, New Mexico, California, Montana, Wyoming, parts of Canada, and parts of Mexico.

MATURE MALES SPEND MOST OF THEIR YEAR IN BACHELOR FLOCKS

THE BIGHORN SHEEP BROWSES ON GRASSES,

CLOVER AND SEDGES IN WARM MONTHS

In colder months, it eats woody plants like willow and sage

It is during the mating season or "rut” that the rams join the female groups

and engage in fierce competition to establish access rights to ewes.

FACTS ABOUT THE BIGHORN SHEEP

  • Height: Males (rams) are 3 – 3 ½ feet; Females (ewes) are smaller.
  • Length: Rams are 5 feet 3 inches to 6 feet; ewes are smaller.
  • Weight: Between 140 – 300 lbs, depending on the subspecies.
  • Horn length: More than 30 inches and 15 inches in circumference (rams); ewes have shorter
  • Horn weight: 30 lbs.
