MLKJ
was a very special man. Of the decade following the boycott, he became a civil rights rock star! He organized non-violent protests for racial and economic equality and tried to make this world more peaceful everyday.

Martin had traveled to Memphis to support and bring attention to a strike of more than 1300 city sanitation workers, but something terrible ended up happening in return.

On April 4th, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, Martins close friend, Andrew Young, which was also his partner had yelled up to him to grab his coat because the weather had turned chilly that day. He already wasn’t feeling the best as it was, and was running a low grade fever. But just before he could answer him, at 6:05 p.m. he was shot in the right cheek shattering his jaw, several vertebrae, And severing his spinal cord. He was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital. It was a very tragic day.

The Aftermath of Martin’s Death:
It had started riots in more than 100 cities across the country, including, Chicago and Washington. President Lyndon Johnson, who signed the civil rights act, designated, April 7th 1968 as a national day of mourning for MLKJ. The following day Kong’s widow went to Memphis and led the striking sanitation workers in a peaceful march in remembrance of his name.

Some drawbacks to this horrible part of history is that there was a lot of death because of all the riots that went on from the shooting of his death. He wouldn’t of wanted that. He wanted a peaceful non-violence world.

Advantages to the loss of Martin, as if there could be, would definitely be the fact that more and more people started to realize what he was trying to accomplish and why he did what he did. Even the people who didn’t agree at first starting to turn around and think about their actions.
