What is a Narrative Text

What is a narrative?

  • Any type of text that tells a story.
  • It can be fiction, nonfiction, drama, or even poetry.
  • Beginning, Rising Action, Ending.

Fictional Narrative Elements

  • Engaging beginning introducing characters, setting, and main conflict.
  • Main character.
  • Supporting characters.
  • Narrator (point of view).

Fictional Narrative Elements

  • Conflict that is resolved.
  • Narrative techniques: dialogue, description, and suspense.
  • Descriptive language that brings it to life.

Gothic Literature

  • Bleak or remote settings
  • Characters in psychological and/or physical torment.
  • Violent, supernatural, or otherworldly events.

Gothic Literature

  • Strongly dramatic and intensely descriptive language
  • Repeated Symbols or Images
