  • The Nazis began to build death camps
  • Held socialists, communists, and other political prisoners
  • They sent many people to gas chambers to be gassed

  • 1950 the camp was abandoned after Germany surrendered
  • It held Jews, Poles & Gypsies
  • Prisons were forced to work at near by factories

  • Dachau was the 1st permanent concentration camp set up by the Nazi’s. It became a model for other camps. Johavah’s wittnesses, Gypsies, homosexuals & criminals were also kept there besides Jews.
  • German doctors performed cruel medical experiments on many prisoners. Thousands of otherprisoners as forced laborers in and around the camp.
  • As allies closed in on Germany the nazi’s took prisoners away from the front lines to camps deeper within Germany. A typhus epidemic swept through the camp. At least 28,000 prisoners were murdered or died of disease. More than 32,000 prisoners were liberated from the camp on April 29,1945
