Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

Over 30 years, AVID has become one of the most successful college-preparatory programs for low-income, underserved students, and today reaches more than 400,000 students in approximately 4,500 schools in 47 states and 16 other countries/territories.

AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

The AVID Student:
- in the academic middle
- desire to go to college
- willingness to work hard
- capable, but not reaching potential
-underrepresented in higher education
-first generation college student

The AVID ELective class:

• organizational and study skills
• develop critical thinking
• learn to ask probing questions
• receive academic help from peers and college tutors
• participate in enrichment and motivational activities
• Supportive, family atmosphere
