PRESENTATION OUTLINE

POLICING

METHODS OF POLICING

  • For my patrol units I will have foot patrol only in very crowded downtown areas.
  • I will also include police vehicles in less crowded or rural areas.
  • All locations will be patrolled 24/7 unless there aren’t enough officers.

STRUCTURE

  • I will have city police, state police, and highway patrol
  • I will have a chief police and a sort of “second in command” to help the chief police with important matters
  • I will split my police into two groups. One group will be the officers out in the community, or highway patrol. These people would be arresting officers. My other group would be desk jobs, tech support, dispatchers.

CITIZEN’S SATISFACTION

  • I will make sure that the community and people as a whole are happy with the work of my police system. If they are not satisfied I will make sure I fix whatever is wrong in the system.

INVESTIGATION OF CRIMES

  • I will have forensic scientists and detectives to investigate crimes
  • Police officers will help collect evidence
  • Forensic scientists will analyze my evidence

RULES FOR INVESTIGATION

  • The police officers must have a warrant for the evidence to be legal.
  • There must be a strong reason for search and seizure.
  • Probable cause is a necessity. Some examples of probable cause would be a trustworthy source of information, or an observation.

CITIZEN RIGHTS

  • I will include the Miranda Rights in my system.
  • I will do so because I believe that it is more just to warn citizens that the don’t have to self-incriminate themselves.

IDENTIFYING CRIMINALS

  • I will identify my criminals through written evidence, security footage/clear pictures or images, confessions, or eyewitnesses.

WHEN OFFICERS BREAK THE RULES

  • If an officer breaks a rule they will be given a warning if it was a little mistake that had no affect on the case.
  • If it was serious enough of a rule broken then the officer will be asked to resign and could go to trial.
