COMPONENTS OF FITTING AND SHOW

FITTING COMPONENTS

  • This section is based on the appearance of you and your horse.
  • The categories you can score in this section are conditioning (15 points), grooming (15 points), tack (5 points), trim/braid (5 points), appearance of exhibitor (10 points).

SHOWMANSHIP COMPONENTS

  • This is judged on the quality of your maneuvers/performance.
  • Categories you can score points in this section are, leading (15 points), posing (15 points), showing to best advantage (10 points), poise, alertness, attitude (10 points).

COMMON MANEUVERS

PIVOT

  • Where the horse plants it's right hind foot, and moves is a circle.

TROT

  • Asking your horse to trot off as soon as you ask them to, and stop as soon as you ask them to.

BACK

  • Moving the horse backwards, in a straight, quick motion.

SQUARING UP FOR INSPECTION

  • Inspection is where the judge will look at you grooming, tack, conditioning and poise, alertness, and attitude.
  • All for legs should be even with each other.

QUARTER SYSTEM

  • When the judge "inspects" your horse you follow their movements, but stay in the opposite "quarter" from the judge.
