In chapter 1, page 12, it states "But I don't believe in fighting- even though my brother annoys me to no end..."

Why?

• It showed she believed in peace. Yes, her brother annoyed her to no end, but she didn't believe in fighting.

Chapter 2, page 22. "Many of the people in Shangla were very poor and did not have modern facilities.... but our family always put on a huge feast for us when we arrived."

Why?

• Malala knew that bad things had happened in her country, people were poor or didn't have proper homes. But she remembers the feasts her relatives put on anyway instead of dreading on the bad memories.

Chapter 3, page 25. "God, please give me Sanju's pencil. I won't tell anyone. Just leave it in my cupboard. I will use it to make everyone happy.

Why?

• She wanted to help everyone! Malala knew people were hurting or scared, or even needed help. She wanted a magic pencil of her own to help them all.

Chapter 5, page 33. "Even though I was a child, I knew this man was mistaken. I had studied the Quran, our holy book, since I was five; and my parents sent me to a madrasa for studies.."

Why?

• It shows that she knows what she stands for and is right, but won't argue. She knows that the man is wrong, because of her studies.

Chapter 6 page 43. "I woke up one day with a plan. I would ignore all this Fazlullah gossip when I got to school. My friends and I should be talking about Bella and Edward or Fruity....."

Why?

• She doesn't want to have to talk about the horrors of Fazlullah anymore; she wants to talk about girl things and nice fun things. Not terrorism and fear, or right and wrong.

Chapter 7, page 46. "Somehow, I could ignore the Taliban, but I could not ignore these two young characters!"

Why?

• She was able to ignore the negative things! (Fazlullah) Instead she focused it to something more positive: her annoying brothers :)

Chapter 8, page 53. "What have I done wrong that I should be afraid? All I wanted to do is go to school. And that is not a crime. That is my right."

Why?

• She seems optimistic to me in this chapter, definitely! It is her right to go to school, and there was nothing wrong with that. Stay strong, Malala!

Chapter 9, page 56/57. "The army had come to rescue Swat from Fazlullah! We cheered and clapped and jumped up and down. Candy was falling from the sky! And peace would be coming to Swat!"

Why?

• Um, hello! Candy is falling from the sky after a time of sadness and fear! And then it ends up her and everyone else gets to celebrate with candy FALLING FROM THE SKY. Yep, this is definitely a happy moment.

Chapter 10, page 60. "And sometimes noisy helicopters flying overhead made it so we couldn't hear a thing, and on those days, we would be sent home. But if school opened, I was there, ready to spend time with my friends and learn from the teachers."

Why?

• Just because some noisy helicopters always fly over the town making them leave school doesn't stop her from going on the days she can. I can go to school today? I'm going! Nothing is stopping her.
