Thoreau’s final sentence in WALDEN reminds the reader that every day is another opportunity to change our lives, to simplify. We think of the sun as our heat source, our life giver, but it is a star, one of millions, that can guide us and bring us hope. Paradoxically, he concludes his thoughts with a beginning—very day, as long as the sun rises, is a new beginning for each of us.
