KEY POINTS:

:-:KEY POINTS FROM THE SECTION:-:

Sexual orientation is divided into four categories: heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and asexual. Alfred Kingsley was the first to "put his name" on gay, bi, and lesbian. He also discovered sexuality as a continuum.

While research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, there has been no evidence that links sexual orientation to one factor.

The United States is a heteronormative society, meaning it supports heterosexuality as the norm. This privileging of heterosexuality has a significant impact on the ways in which non-heterosexual people are able to express their sexuality.

In this age of time, homo and bisexuals are treated differently than others. This caused a spike in the word "homophobia", which means 'the fear of homosexuals' This also includes bisexuals and lesbians.
