Creativity is about building connections

Brain games like these are what psychologists use to measure creative insight. In order to get the correct answers, you have to find a connection between unrelated concepts, which is what's at the core of most creative endeavors (Friedman, 2014).

Activities where we're learning and growing but not fully aware that we are because we enjoy what we're doing are the best form of engagement. In psychology terms it's called flow - "being completely involved in an activity for its own sake."

Successes & Setbacks

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is holding you back with difficulties, it means it's going to launch you into something great. So stay focused on what you believe in, and keep aiming.

Connectedness & Balance

Phil Jackson - The Zen Master
How do we create an environment that promotes connections, camaraderie, creativity, productivity, and success?

Phil Jackson achieved so much success as the Bulls' & Lakers' basketball coach because he created an environment of togetherness, mindfulness, and love on his teams. He made sure that everyone was valued and knew how important his role was for the team's success. The team's trust and bond with one another is what enabled them to achieve at such high levels consistently. He made sure that his players were challenged and pushing each other but also knew when to step back, reflect, decompress, and have some fun.

"A good leader creates interconnected followers and, above all, always believes in the players."

We Flourish When

  • We feel valued
  • We feel comfortable
  • We play a role
  • We have some freedom
  • We face a challenge that we know we can accomplish and will improve us
The lotus flower is often considered the most beautiful flower. Its petals open one by one, and it only grows in the mud. In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud - the obstacles of life and its suffering. The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our situations in life. If we are to strive to gain more wisdom, more kindness, and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow slowly but surely - and resolutely!
