PRESENTATION OUTLINE

1800's- Americans,British,and French established trading posts along the pacific coast. The Washington journeys book quote. "The first American trading post was created by the pacific fur company." This attracted people to attend the trading posts and trade goods to others which helped them in life.

1800's: During the early 1800's American whaling ships set sail from New England ports. "700 whale ships embarked on a voyage". People did whaling because they had good food for survival and oil.

1800's wheat farming spread rapidly across the Palouse region of Eastern Washington. Washington Journey states "Wheat made up of 45 percent of the value of all Washington crops." These crops brought a lot of settlers to Washington because there crop growing was on point. They had the best crop land around.

1800's: In the early 1800's people in New England were excited about religion. "The church was the center of village life". Families that were born across the country wanted to move to a more religious town and to celebrate church more.

Lewis and Clark explore the Louisiana Purchase in 1804." It was an immense piece of territory that needed to be explored and mapped. This helped early settlers because it made it easier for them to travel.

1831: In 1831 four Native American Indians men went to St. Louis to visit William Clark who along with Lewis had visited the Native American Indians during the famous exploration. This meeting helped the Indians because they learned from each other and shared their knowledge.

1848: In San Francisco the Gold Rush of 1848 had a huge impact on traveling. "Logs were needed to build docks and bridges". The bridges helped people move into different locations. Ships entered the docks and cars drove across the bridges.

1849-1851: San Francisco had the misfortune of burning down in six major fires between these years. "Each rebuilding effort meant greater demand". This made other people try harder to create things.

1859: Petroleum oil was discovered in Pennsylvania. It could be made into kerosene for home lighting. "Whaling was no longer a large industry".

1862: Homestead Act, "settlers who got land because of the action of the homestead act".
