SETTING
the village of clear sky and its Inn
The main problem in the story is that Rendi ran away from home and is traveling in the back someone else's cart. The cart owner is trying to persuade Master Chao, the inn keeper, into buying a gang of wine(a barrel)The wine seller finds Rendi and throws him on the ground. Master Chao takes Rendi from the cart owner and explains that he could be useful at the inn. Together they roll the gang back to the inn and Rendi does does chores there.
MAIN EVENTS
- When Rendi gets to the inn, Master Chao uses the wine he bought to write the wang symbol, a symbol of power, on is daughter Peiyi's head. Rendi stands in the doorway and makes faces at her. Rendi and Peiyi don't get along very well for a while.
- Rendi makes several trips a day to get water from a well, one day he goes and a big toad jumps from the well. Rendi doesn't care for it but the toad follows Mr. Shan around.
The problem in the story is that the moon is missing and Rendi is the only one who notices. Along with that, every night the sky cries, yet Rendi is the only one who hears it.
