FEDERALISM💯

  • Federalism- Power is shared between a "big" government and smaller state and local governments.
  • Example: Washington = Minnesota.
  • Fact- Federalism is there to ensure power equally to big and smaller/ local governments.

INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY😴

  • Independent Judiciary- The judicial branch (our system of judges and courts) is not influenced by politicians or popular cultural beliefs.
  • Example: "As Christians we believe..." No! "Since Donald Trump said..." No!
  • Fact- Even thought the courts are supposed to be unbiased; they continue to go based of their personal beliefs. Since the 50's.

POPULAR SOVREIGNTY👌🏾

  • Popular Sovereignty - The people with the source of all power. They use their power when they vote for people to represent their values.
  • Example- "We vote for Jessica Swanson, to represent any or every concern, issue, or act we decide to be made on our behalf."
  • Fact - The people in the government currently are chosen by citizens. And the people.

RULE OF LAW😈

  • Rule Of Law - These are rules for government and laws that help keep order. When we have a question about how to govern, we use rules set up in the constitution to guide us. Everyone, no matter who they are, must follow the same rules and laws.
  • Example - Celebs get DUI's, even though they seem superior to normal people who aren't famous.
  • Fact - Everyone and anyone must follow rules, if anyone breaks those rules; they face the same and equal consequences.

SEPARATION OF POWERS/ CHECKS AND BALANCES⚡️

  • Separation of powers/ checks and balances - These are 3 separate branches of government; legislative, executive and judicial. No one near cb can do anything without the other two branches being involved.
  • Example - " We the executive branch have decided..." No!
  • Fact - If the Executive branch decides they want to remove a certain law or something, they can do nothing with out the other two branches consent, approve to or say.

INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS👏🏾🙌🏾

  • Individual Rights - The people have rights and it is the job of the government to protect those rights.
  • Example - The government cannot let people get shot or killed for speaking their mind because they do have freedom of speech.
  • Fact - This is one of the most important laws ever to be created.
