Rhode island

  • Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams and others in Providence.
  • Rhode Island was founded in 1636.
  • Rhode Island was part of the New England Colonies.

Roger Williams

  • Roger Williams was born in December 21, 1603 .
  • Roger Williams was a puritan that was was banished from Massachusetts for his teachings.
  • After he was banished he bought land from the Narragansett Indians that today is known as Rhode Island.

Rhode Island's Economy

  • Along the coast people made a living by fishing, whaling,shipbuilding and inland people usually farmed.
  • Plants that were farmed included Wheat, corn, pumpkin, rye, squash, beans, and others
  • Trade and Exports included fish, whale products, rum, horses, livestock, and others

  • Whale Oil was a valuable item because it could be used in lamps.

Rhode Island's Geography

  • Most of the Geography for Rhode Island was rolling hills, low lands,mountains, thick trees, rivers, and poor soil that was bad for crops.
  • The highest point of Rhode island is Jerimoth Hill and the lowest is the sea level where Rhode island meets the Atlantic Ocean

Rhode Island's Religion

  • Their was no religious freedom in places inhabited by Puritans in Rhode Island.
  • Puritans were people who opposed the Catholic church and wanted religious freedom to practice their own religion but did not tolerate any other religion.

Facts about Rhode Island

  • Rhode Island is the smallest state in the United States of America.
  • Rhode Islanders were the first to take military action against England by sinking an English ship called "The Gaspee."
  • The first troops that were sent to attack from England landed in Rhode Island.
