BERLIN WALL SIMULATION

You are told you can no longer leave Wayzata High School. A large, concrete wall has been built during the duration of one school day and Wayzata Schools does not allow anyone to enter or leave the high school so students care more about their education. What do you do?

  • Protest against the unfairness of being imprisoned

Wayzata takes the matter extremely far and has now said if anyone tries to escape, they will be killed. What do you do?

Untitled Slide

  • Continue to respect their decision
  • Escape by driving through the wall
  • Build a secret tunnel and crawl through to freedom
  • Use science supplies to create a hot air balloon and fly over the wall

Untitled Slide

  • If you chose to respect the decision, you are safe from risking your life
  • If you chose to drive through the strip, you were shot and killed
  • If you escaped through a tunnel, you were able to escape to freedom
  • If you attempted to fly across the wall in a hot air balloon, you died after the balloon failed to land safely

People have been separated from their families and some are willing to risk their life in order to escape. You and many other students become frustrated with the school and want change. Students want to be able to live without constant control from teachers. How will you approach it?

Untitled Slide

  • Protest and ask for help outside the wall.
  • Put your frustration into artwork by creating graffiti on the wall expressing your anger
  • Do nothing. Wayzata will not take action no matter how many people don't like what they're doing.

Untitled Slide

  • Many people chose to protest against the Berlin Wall, but it barely made change.
  • Although it's a good way of letting out your anger, Wayzata still does not respond to people's frustration seen painted on the wall.
  • Protesting and graffiti may not have worked completely, but doing nothing only gives Wayzata more power to control its students.

After 28 days, Wayzata finally announces they will reopen the border between the high school and the rest of the city. What do you do?

Untitled Slide

  • Head straight to the wall and begin to climb the wall and celebrate. You see many people on the other side of the wall as well. You as well as the other side begin to destroy the wall.
  • You are a firm believer in caring about education. You continue to stay and support Wayzata's beliefs.

Untitled Slide

  • This is what many people in East Germany did. After the announcement of borders reopening, people went straight to the wall and began to celebrate and destroy it.
  • Although many decided to escape East Germany, some did stay behind because they believed in East German beliefs.
