  • Be well prepared
  • Stay focused on the student
  • Facilitators can be used when a neutral party is needed to support communication
  • Communication needs to be fair between all stakeholders

Ways to resolve disputes

  • Parents can call a meeting at anytime to communicate their disagreement or concerns about IEP implementation..
  • Negotiations meetings
  • Third (neutral) parties can assist
  • Mediation
  • Due process
  • Lawsuit

Lawsuits happen.
There are a number of landmark cases that concluded with courts ruling in favor of parents.
This has great implications for all Special Education professionals. We are bound by law to implement the IEP
