PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

BY: CAROLINE ROWATT

MOUTH

  • The first step in the digestive system is that you put, say a banana, into your mouth and take a bite.
  • You start to chew and then you swallow. You know, normal eating, but what happens after that?

ESOPHAGUS

  • The esophagus is a long narrow tube your chewed banana will travel down leading to your stomach.

STOMACH

  • Your chewed banana comes down from your esophagus to your stomach where it starts to break down and mix the food into smaller pieces.
  • After this, your banana will travel down to your small intestine.

SMALL INTESTINE

  • After your food through your stomach, it goes to the small intestine.
  • Here, the banana's nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine and it goes to the large intestine.
  • The small intestine stretches up to 7 meters long!

LARGE INTESTINE

  • The large intestine surrounds the small intestine.
  • After the banana goes through the small intestine, it travels through the large intestine, which is kind of like a trash can. It gets rid of the waste and keeps the parts of the banana the body needs for energy.
