Before the play-write

  • Arthur Asher was born on October 17, 1915
  • Before he started writing plays, Miller worked for producers
  • In 1932 he graduates from Abraham Lincoln High School and in 1938, he graduates from University of Michigan
  • After graduating, Miller went to pursue his dream of becoming a play-writer
  • In 1944, his first play, 'The Man Who Had All The Luck', debuted.

The Creation of The Crucible

Introduction to the Crucible

  • The Crucible was introduced in 1944, after Miller had been successful with other plays
  • After Miller had done weeks worth of research on the 1692, it was time to write the book
  • In 1953, Miller's Crucible was debuted as a Broadway play

Crucible's Purpose

  • The purpose of the Crucible was for people to see that these were real events
  • A lot of people had criticized Miller's work, but he continued to rise to the top
  • A lot of people did not believe in these theories, but after the success of The Crucible, they understood what point Miller was trying to point out

  • Mary Grace Slattery was born June 4, 1915
  • Before meeting Arthur Miller, she studied to be a social worker, therefore studying psychology
  • In 1936, Miller and Slattery met at University of Michigan and they later married
  • Not much is known about Mary Grace

Inge Morath

  • Inge Morath was born on May 27, 1923
  • She was a photographer who was deeply passionate about what she did
  • She met Miller, then 47, and she was 39, they married in 1962
  • Since 1962 until her death in 2002, Miller and Inge have been married
  • Both have since passed in the early 2000's
