• His mom was Daisy Kennedy Ellington and his father was James Edward Ellington

• This is one of my favorite pieces of his music because it has a certain type of rhythm is catchy.
• It was composed in 1931 and lots of people have sampled it

• Duke had won lots of awards like the puzzler prize
• He even won 9 Grammys! 9 Grammys thats a lot.

WHEN HE STARTED TO PLAY

• He started to play professionally in 1914
• He ended his playing times in 1974
• He started preforming with his band when he was 18.

• In the summer on 1914 while working selling soda he wrote his first song “Soda Fountain Rag”
• About 12,000 people went to his funeral
