LEIF ERIKSSON

  • In 1000 AD he sailed from west Norway to Greenland.
  • He was a Viking.
  • He was the son of Erik the Red.

CHRISTOPHER COLOMBUS

  • He sailed in 1492 AD to find a way to get to Asia, but landed in the Carribeans thinking it was Asia.
  • Was born in Genoa, Italy.
  • Was an explorer.

FERDINAND MAGELLAN

  • In 1522 AD, his ships were the first to circumnavigate, or go all the way around the globe.
  • Only his ships and crew made it all the way, he died in the Philippines.

COLUMBIAN EXCHANGE

  • European explorers found plants in the America's that were unknown to them.
  • They took them back and shared them with the Europeans, but they also got diseases they didn't know how to fight.
  • The native Americans also got horses and pigs and other 'goods'.

CONQUISTADORS

  • People from Spain came to central and South America and conquered great a,punt of the land.
  • They named it New Spain.
  • The native Americans were captured by them, and forced to be their slaves.
  • As slaves, they went to mines sometimes to get gold.
  • The Aztec tried to fight them, but they didn't have as strong weapons, and they died of disease.

NORTHWEST PASSAGE

  • Jacques Cartier discovered this passage.
  • He was looking for a water route to Asia.
  • He ended up in North America.

MIDDLE PASSAGE

  • Ships brought slaves through this passage.
  • Millions of selves were transported through the passage.
  • They had only a little more then 20 inches wide to sleep.
  • They got diseases from being so crowded.
