In 1522 AD, his ships were the first to circumnavigate, or go all the way around the globe.
Only his ships and crew made it all the way, he died in the Philippines.

COLUMBIAN EXCHANGE
European explorers found plants in the America's that were unknown to them.
They took them back and shared them with the Europeans, but they also got diseases they didn't know how to fight.
The native Americans also got horses and pigs and other 'goods'.

CONQUISTADORS
People from Spain came to central and South America and conquered great a,punt of the land.
They named it New Spain.
The native Americans were captured by them, and forced to be their slaves.
As slaves, they went to mines sometimes to get gold.
The Aztec tried to fight them, but they didn't have as strong weapons, and they died of disease.

He was looking for a water route to Asia.
He ended up in North America.
