ELECTROLYTE

Speeds up the process of Electrolysis.

ALLOY

Mixture that contains one metal.

MELTING POINT

The point at which a substance melts.

BOILING POINT

The point at which the substance boils.

INCREASE

To go up

DECREASE

To go down

ELEMENT

Element: a pure substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance.

COMPOUND

Compound: Two or more elements that are chemically combined

ATOM

Building blocks of all matter.

ATOMIC NUMBER

How many protons or electrons are in that one elements atom.

ATOMIC MASS

How many protons PLUS neutrons are in an element.

PERIOD

Horizontal row of elements tells us the number of electron shells.

GROUP

The vertical column tells us the number of valence electrons

VALENCE ELECTRONS

How many electrons are located in the outermost shell of an element.

METAL

Solids good conductors of electricity some are magnetic, most are shiny and they can be made into wires.

NONMETALS

Usually liquids and gases s
Do not conduct electricity not magnetic.

METALLOID

In between metal and nonmetal.

REACTIVITY

The state or power if being reactive or the degree to which a thing is reactive.

RADIOACTIVITY

Is the emission of radiation from an unstable atomic nucleus.

REACTANT

A starting substance in a chemical reaction.

PRODUCT

A substance formed by a chemical reaction.

PROTON

A positive charge in the nucleus

NEUTRON

A neutral charge found in the nucleus

ELECTRON

A negative charge found in the electron shells in the nucleus.
