WHAT IS AN INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION
An international organization is one that includes
members from more than one nation. Some international
organizations are very large, such as corporations.
Others are small and dedicated to a specific purpose,
such as conservation of a species. Intergovernmental
Organizations.
ITS TYPES
- INTERGOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS:A public or governmental organization created by treaty or agreement between states .
- NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS:A not-for-profit group,principally independent from government,wich is organized on a local,national or international level to adress issues in support of the public good.
ITS FUNCTIONS
International organizations serve many diverse functions, including collecting information and monitoring trends , delivering services and aid , and providing forums for bargaining and settling disputes . By providing political institutions through which states can work together to achieve common objectives,international organizations can help to foster cooperative behaviour.IGOs also serve useful purposes for individual states, which often use them as instruments of foreign policy to legitimate their actions and
to constrain the behaviour of other states.
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. Currently made up of 193 Member States, the UN and its work are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter.
the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), originally known as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, was created by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children and mothers in countries that had been devastated by World War II.
