PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SIMPLE SQUAMOUS EPITHEILIUM

  • Single layer of flattened cells.
  • Disc-shaped nuclei.
  • Found in your kidneys, air sacs of lungs and lining of heart.

SIMPLE CUBOIDAL EPITHEILIUM

  • Single layer of cube like cells.
  • Large spherical nuclei.
  • Located in kidney rubles, ducts of small glands, and ovary surface.

SIMPLE COLUMNAR EPITHEILIUM

  • Single layer of tall cells.
  • Oval nuclei.
  • Some layers may contain mucus-secreting goblet cells.
  • Found mostly in digestive tract.

PSEUDOSTRATFIED COLUMNAR EPITHEILIUM

  • Single layer of cells differing in heights.
  • Nuclei seen at different levels.
  • Lasted in ducts of large glands, parts of male urethra, most in upper respiratory tract.

STRATIFIED SQUAMOUS EPITHEILIUM

  • Thick membrane made of many cell layers.
  • Surface cells are full of keratin.
  • Surface cells are flattened.
  • Basal cells are cuboidal or columnar.
  • Found in moist linings of mouth, esophagus, and vagina.

TRANSITIONAL EPITHEILIUM

  • Basal cells cuboidal or columnar.
  • Surface cells dome-shaped or squamous like.
  • Found in lines of the uterus, bladder and parts of the urethra.

AREOLAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE

  • Gel like matrix with all three fiber types
  • Located under epitheilia

ADIPOSE TISSUE

  • Matrix as in aerolar, but very sparse; closely packed fat cells.
  • Nucleus pushed to the sides.
  • Located under the skin, around the kidneys and eyeballs and in breasts.

DENSE CONNECTIVE TISSUE

  • Primarily parallel collagen fibers; a few elastin fibers.
  • Located in tendons and many ligaments.

HYALINE CARTILAGE

  • Firm matrix.
  • Lie in lacunae.
  • Located around embryonic skeleton, covers ends of long bones in joint cavities.

FIBROCARTILLAGE

  • Matrix similar but less firm than hyaline.
  • Thick collagen fibers predominate.
  • Located in intervertebral discs, pubic symphysis, discs of knee joints.

OSSEOUS TISSUE

  • Hard, calcified matrix.
  • Contains many collagen fibers.
  • Located in the bones.

MUSCLE TISSUE

  • Specialized to contract to produce movement in some body parts.

SKELETAL MUSCLE

  • Long, cylindrical.
  • Located in skeletal muscles attached to bones or skin.

CARDIAC MUSCLE

  • Branching, striated, generally uninucleate.
  • Located in the walls of the heart.

SMOOTH MUSCLE

  • Spindle-shaped cells.
  • Central nuclei.
  • Located mostly in walls of hollow organs.

NERVOUS TISSUE

  • Branching cells.
  • Located in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
