The union was going to be attacked by confederates.
Confederates were going to attack Harpers Ferry
The battle took place on September 17, 1862
Lee's troops marched north.
It was the bloodiest one day battle of the civil war in us history.

BATTLE OF SHILOH
During the Battle Of Shiloh each side lost ground.
They also both gained ground too.
The union army pushed the confederates to retreat.
This helped the union win part of the Mississippi River.

THE SEIGE OF VICKSBURG
The Seige of Vicksburg lasted about six weeks.
It didn't last long because people were starving.
So the confederates surrendered.
So that means that the Mississippi River was under union control

Emancipation proclamation means the announcement of freedom
Lincoln thought that one way to weaken the south was to free slaves.
Lincoln presented the emancipation Proclomation after the the battle of Antietam.

GETTYSBURG ADDRESS
It was an important speech that Lincoln spoke.
On November 19, 1863 the Gettysburg address was delivered.
Lincoln presented a new cemetery
The cemetery was called the Gettysburg cemetery.
